Ms. Asia Al-Mashreqi, President of the Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF), participated as a speaker at AidEx 2023 Geneva.

She highlighted women’s empowerment and rights, and many issues related to women, including gender-based violence and its devastating impact on individuals and societies.

Mrs. Al-Mashriqi stressed the importance of addressing the roots of this issue by focusing on community awareness in order to promote a culture of equality as human rights. Women rights are not a demand, but rather a basic principle that must be respected. On the other hand, Asia Al-Mashriqi touched on the enormous potential of women and their ability to withstand difficult circumstances, as well as their leadership in the field of sustainable development and rebuilding societies affected by conflicts, as they are not just a partner in society, but they are An essential foundation for development and prosperity.

In the second session, which focused on the topic of localization of humanitarian work, the importance of localization of humanitarian work was highlighted as it enhances the sustainability of projects by providing local knowledge and expertise. Local organizations often have a better understanding of local culture, language and challenges, enabling them to implement programs and projects in ways that are appropriate to the surrounding conditions and achieve better long-term results. In addition, the localization of humanitarian work enhances communication and cooperation between local organizations and the local community, which enhances the interaction and positive impact of humanitarian projects. The localization of humanitarian work contributes to building the capabilities of the local community. When local organizations are empowered with the responsibility and capabilities necessary to implement humanitarian work, they have the opportunity to develop their skills and expertise in multiple fields, such as planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Thus, local capacities are strengthened and sustainability in the community is enhanced.
